$110 million development approved for Doncaster Hill

12th June 2018

A new Residential Aged Care facility and Retirement Village, to be located on a prime gateway site on Doncaster Hill, has received planning approval and will become a flagship project for leading aged care provider, Benetas.

The $110 million development will include a fully integrated mix of Residential Aged Care accommodation and Retirement Living Apartments along with lifestyle, wellbeing and allied health services - supporting Council’s vision for a community focused, mixed use, sustainable village on Doncaster Hill.

Presenting as a single landmark building, the facility will comprise individual low rise towers providing for a 124 bed Residential Aged Care Facility, accessed from Doncaster Road, as well as 76 Retirement Living apartments with access from Carawatha Road.

The two and three bed Retirement Living apartments will have complimentary lifestyle services including rooftop terrace, cinema, gymnasium and spa, library, internet café, coffee shop and restaurant.

The separate Residential Aged Care facility will be designed according to the world leading Benetas approach to care which provides accommodation in separate apartments for groups of no more than eight residents, each with a dedicated private lounge, dining room and kitchen.

In addition, the site is supported by a wide range of community spaces including residents bar, private dining rooms, hairdresser, multi-function activity and socialisation spaces.

Benetas General Manager of Strategy, Infrastructure and Housing, Chris Karagiannis said that like much of Melbourne, the Manningham population is ageing and there is a growing need to provide local accommodation and services for older people.

“This development will be world class with the uniqueness of the proposal falling within the concept of an integrated facility that also provides for two very distinct living environments,” he said.

“The concept of integrating retirement living units with residential aged care is a relatively new concept in the Australian market.

“Benetas currently has a co-located residential service at Dalkeith Heights Retirement Village in Traralgon, however the proposed Doncaster site would be the first purpose-built multi-storey development of this kind for Benetas.

“Benetas is thrilled to be able to deliver this project for the Manningham community,” he said.

“This flagship project supports our vision to provide a positive and fulfilling experience of ageing where everyone has the opportunity to age well in communities of choice and support.”
