Bridgewater Lake Art Show continues to inspire Melbourne’s north 15 years on

Bridgewater Lake Retirement Estate will host its annual Art Show later this month, showcasing works from artists right across Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Resident Nicola Kelly will showcase three pieces during the Roxburgh Park show on Saturday, 29 and Sunday, 30 August, marking the event’s 15^th anniversary.

The grandmother said she chose pastel as her preferred medium for this year’s event with pieces featuring a cottage and shed in regional Victoria and a painting inspired by a Vietnamese holiday she took earlier this year.

The striking piece features a Vietnamese woman on a boat, which she captured in photos taken during the two-week sojourn.

“I was fascinated about how the Vietnamese people so cleverly manoeuvre these boats,” Ms Kelly said.

“I like the fact that it was my photo, taken as part of my special experience, which became my painting.”

The Bridgewater Lake Art Show will this year include more than 220 artworks featuring a range of styles and mediums, completed by almost 50 artists.

“It means everything to me to be part of this art show because this is my home, it brings people to Bridgewater Lake to showcase everything the village offers,” Ms Kelly said.

“People who attend will see some amazing local artwork from across Melbourne’s north.”

Ms Kelly said one of the art prizes for this year’s event will pay tribute to late Bridgewater Lake employee Peter Harry who passed away in December.

People who attend the event will also be in the running for a number of prizes, including the discounted purchase of artworks.

The art show will take place at Bridgewater Lake Retirement Estate community centre, located at 9 Wedgewood Road, Roxburgh Park, between 10am and 3pm on both days.

Patrons will be able to enjoy a Devonshire Tea with all proceeds going to a local charity.
