NAIDOC Week

This year’s theme, “For Our Elders”, provides us with an opportunity to get strength, guidance and knowledge from our Elders in everyday life.

To mark NAIDOC Week, the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing, supported by Benetas, organised a cultural awareness walk. Led by Uncle Shane Charles, the walk along Birrarung healing sites also included a Welcome to Country and a didgeridoo performance.

In our residential homes, residents participated in a range of other special activities focused on NAIDOC week.

Kerry, one of our residents enjoys creating art and collecting paintings that have been created by Indigenous artists.

“My grandmother was of Aboriginal descent and I have always wanted to discover my roots,” she says.

To commemorate NAIDOC week, Kerry painted on pebbles and created a display in the home for residents, team members and visitors to enjoy.
