A seamless ageing journey for the Macedon Ranges

1st January 2020

The amalgamation of Macedon Ranges Health with leading Victorian aged care provider, Benetas, in 2018 came with a $60 million plan to meet the Macedon Ranges’ ageing needs. A significant portion of this is dedicated to redevelop the Gisborne Oaks aged care facility to embrace a new innovative model of care.

Wider developments in the Macedon Ranges
The $60 million not-for-profit planned investment in the region also includes:

  • A new residential retirement village in the neighbouring site.
  • Expansion of allied health, community and home care services in the region.
  • An up-front investment of $1.2 million in Macedon Ranges Health’s facilities and infrastructure.

Development update

Towards the end of 2019, we presented a draft design of The New Oaks residential aged care home. Since then we have been working to finalise the design, taking in feedback and learnings from research we conducted on our existing facilities.

We are now pleased to advise that the plans have been completed and submitted to Council for approval. Key updates include additional larger communal spaces and more accessible open spaces to bring the community together, and a move to larger wings as opposed to smaller apartments.

This was in response to research which suggests larger wings encourage greater socialisation and engagement. Full plans for the development are now available at the local Macedon Ranges Shire Council offices. We hope you like them!

The Benetas Best Life Model of Care is built around the following principles:

Apartment-style living
By adopting apartment style-living, residents will live with a small number of residents. Each person will have their own room and ensuite, and share the kitchen, dining and lounge areas with others in their apartment. Care and support will also be provided by a regular and dedicated care team to each apartment to ensure the team really get to know residents and their needs. Residents also have access to a registered nurse around the clock.

Individual choice and freedom
The building will also exhibit modern chic interiors where residents have access to a wide range of facilities. This spans internal courtyards, community activity spaces, a hairdressing salon, wellness centre and library lounge, private dining rooms, a worship and reflection room.

Person centred care
This new design draws from extensive research on person centred care. It puts residents and their families at the centre of all considerations – from the building itself and its fit-out through to staff rostering and program development. When we have completed the redevelopment we will focus on providing an adjoining retirement village to offer the community with a seamless ageing journey. This is subject to planning approval.

We expect the development timeline will be as follows
