Confirmed COVID-19 case for employee at St George's

9th July 2020

Unfortunately, despite the rigorous measures we have been putting in place to protect our community, an employee at our St George’s aged care home in Altona Meadows has returned a positive test to COVID-19.

The employee received this confirmation on Tuesday 7 July, and has been in isolation since Sunday 5 July when the individual began to display symptoms. The employee advised their manager of their symptoms as soon as they’d received confirmation of a positive test, in line with Benetas’ precautionary protocols.

Please be aware that while the individual attended work on Friday 3 July, they did not have any COVID-19 symptoms until developing a sore throat on Sunday night. We are keeping in regular contact and checking the individual’s progress.

Benetas has been in contact with the State and Federal Departments of Health and they are now completing the process of contact tracing of this employee.

Testing has been arranged for all residents and employees at the home and will be conducted over the course of today. The residents’ family members have also been advised and we will be updating them regularly as further information comes to hand.

Please note, the employee worked in Apartments One and Two at the St George’s home, and we are closely monitoring all residents for symptoms. We have taken the decision to isolate the residents of both apartments as a precaution, and are undertaking COVID-19 testing of both those residents and impacted employees.

Those employees who worked closely with the affected employee have also been notified and will isolate at home until they receive a clear COVID-19 test result.

Our teams are working incredibly hard to ensure the ongoing health, safety and wellbeing of all involved. Benetas will continue to be in close contact with the Department and do everything we can to ensure that all our St George’s residents and employees are safe.

We sincerely appreciate your support and understanding in this extremely difficult time and assure you that the health, safety and wellbeing of our community is of the utmost importance.
