Avis and John Hicks celebrate 66th wedding anniversary together in home care
29th September 2020
Benetas Home Care clients, Avis and John Hicks, celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary at home in Mooroopna recently, with Avis also turning 85 in June.
Avis and John are the parents of Benetas In-Home Service Assistant, Beth Anderson. Beth has been a long-standing customer of Benetas as she used the Home Care services when her husband Bruce came home from hospital after having a stroke. She said the help was amazing and worked very differently back then.
Sadly Beth had to make the hard decision to put Bruce into fulltime care as he never walked again.
When she was younger, Beth completed her Certificate 3 in Aged Care while she lived on her parent’s farm where they bred Jersey cows and Illawarra’s for milking.
“My parents Avis and John Hicks were amazing people. When my brother Warren sold the farm and moved my mum and dad into town, they never wanted care but needed it. It took a long time for me to convince them to get some help at home,” said Beth.
“I spoke to two lovely ladies at Benetas and was able to get mum on a package that suited her needs.”
“My mum got sick last year so she was transferred to hospital in Melbourne. Since returning home, she has continued to receive care at home through Benetas.”
Last year was her parent’s 65th wedding anniversary, however, as Avis was sick, they were unable to celebrate the occasion. So they decided to celebrate this year, being their 66th year of marriage.
“We don’t think Avis realised they were up to 66 years of marriage as she was so sick last year, she was just happy to be celebrating 65 years!” Beth said.

anniversary’ cake and flowers.
