AFL game brings cheer to St Paul’s Terrace aged care resident

21st April 2021

At 94 years of age, football enthusiast, Roma Chester, had her chance to enjoy last Thursday night’s live match between St Kilda and Richmond with the support of Benetas’ One Wish Program for aged care residents.

Roma, her family and two Benetas workers were picked up by limousine from Benetas’ aged care home in Frankston, St Paul’s Terrace, and driven to the match where they enjoyed a lovely meal before the game.

Following a challenging health year for Roma, the team at St Paul’s Terrace had organised for the special event to help fulfil one of her dreams and create a memory with her family to cherish.

Lifestyle Coordinator, Pragya Mishra said the home knew just how much this would mean to Roma.

“Since a young child, Roma has always been an avid St Kilda supporter, but hasn’t been able to attend a game in years,” Pragya said.

“We were working to make this happen last year before COVID. She’s been incredibly patient despite the health issues she’s faced these past months, and it’s great to see this night now come to life!”

Roma said it was a night she wouldn’t forget. “I really did not expect something like this and enjoyed every moment of it. It was a marvellous game and I’m so glad to have been part of it.”

Benetas’ One Wish Program supports its residents and clients create memories to cherish, regardless of their financial situation.

The not-for-profit aged care provider facilitates initiatives like this each year, alongside financial aid for residents and clients experiencing hardship via the organisations’ long-standing social dividend program.

“These charitable initiatives for residents and clients goes straight to the core of our values at Benetas,” CEO Sandra Hills OAM said.

“I’m so pleased to see Roma and other residents benefit from our One Wish program and embrace meaningful experiences just like this.”

Special thanks goes to St Paul’s Terrace Residential Manager, Simbi Harawa, Lifestyle Team Member, Connie Chaffey, and Lifestyle Coordinator, Pragya Mishra, for their support in arranging this One Wish for Roma.
