Funder: Community Bank Gisborne & District, part of Bendigo Bank

Duration: September 2020 – September 2022

A number of clubs in the Macedon Ranges have been impacted by the death of a club member to suicide. We know that sporting clubs in the shire play a critical role in keeping our community members physically active and healthy, and also building social connections, to reduce the likelihood of suicidal behaviours and improve a person's ability to cope with difficult circumstances.

This project will work with two sports clubs in Macedon Ranges to identify and pilot activities that can support suicide prevention and promote mental health of club members. This project will engage with players, their families, coaches, volunteers and committee members to help determine which activities the club pilots. A key part of the project will be to capture learning from the activities that each club pilots, so that we can promote and share these with all our clubs in the Macedon Ranges Shire.
