Duration: September 2019 – September 2020

Ambulance Victoria, Bendigo Health and Kyneton District Health Service are implementing a systems approach to assess and triage mental health clients in Macedon Ranges within their own community.

During out of hours (5pm – 8am), the Urgent Care Centre at Kyneton District Hospital will link with the Mental Health Triage Team, as well as the Mental Health Enhanced Crisis Assessment Team (ECAT) at Bendigo Health, who will be able to complete mental health assessments for patients at the Urgent Care Centre through a range of methods appropriate for the patient.

This project will help ensure the patient is receiving the best care at the most appropriate location, and avoid unnecessary ambulance transfers outside of the shire, which can be extremely distressing for people experiencing a mental health crisis. It will also help to make better use of ambulance and hospital emergency service resources.
