Subzero visits Benetas St George’s

Residents at Benetas St George’s in Altona Meadows were star-struck in late January, when 1992 Melbourne Cup winner Subzero paid them a visit.

The champion horse, whose visit was part of Benetas’ commitment to social inclusion, delighted residents, family and staff members, as he paraded around inside the communal area.

Benetas St George’s Residential Facility Manager Justin McCarthy said the visit brought more than smiles to the faces of residents.

“We have two residents in particular who are avid punters, and meeting Subzero in their very own home was a very special moment,” said Mr McCarthy.

“Experiences such as these bring back such fond memories for our residents. It’s something they won’t forget.”

Benetas CEO, Sandra Hills, said that opportunities such as these were important to ensuring residents were able to enjoy a positive and fulfilling experience of ageing.

“At Benetas, we aim to build relationships that provide social opportunity for our residents and for community groups to engage with older people,” said Ms Hills.

“It’s these kinds of activities which strengthen the connections our residents have with the community, and can have profound benefits to their sense of wellbeing.”

“Enjoying a visit from such a famous horse was a real treat for our residents and no doubt was one of the highlights of the year!”

Subzero also visited Benetas St John’s Park in Mooroolbark late last year.
