Help to stay at home

Research has indicated that the majority of older Australians would prefer to stay living in their own homes, rather than move into residential care.

There are a number of community services available which are funded by the government.

Help to stay at home

For example, a Community Aged Care Package provides support at home with personal care, meals, shopping and getting around.

Services can be tailored to suit each individual. Higher level care services are available for those who require nursing or allied health assistance or for people living with the effects of dementia.

Respite is also worth considering to assist families needing a break. Respite services can be provided at home, in a respite day centre or at a residential aged care facility. Residential or overnight respite care may be used on a planned or emergency basis, for example if a carer is absent due to holidays or illness.
