Volunteer

The spirit of Benetas

Benetas volunteers come from all walks of life – retirees with a passion to enrich the lives of older people, businesses with a social conscience to teenagers who want to do something meaningful with their free time.

Why volunteer with Benetas?

Volunteering your time to help others is one of the most generous gifts you can give. As a volunteer with Benetas you are extremely important in the lives of many older people, especially those who are frail or unable to leave home. To those people you are a close friend who keeps them in contact with their community.

What’s in it for you?

Our volunteers are often a little surprised by how much they get out of their experience. Mainly, it’s a positive feeling and the satisfaction that comes from helping others. Some of the other benefits include:

  • Learning new skills
  • Making new friends
  • Contributing to and improving the community
  • Learning from our elders
  • Having fun

A rewarding experience

Phyllis is 94 years old and Benetas’ oldest volunteer. She was also one of the first volunteers, quickly becoming a much-loved person in the lives of older people, driving them to appointments, shopping and even the movies. Although age has slowed her a little, it certainly hasn’t affected her love for volunteering.

“When you’ve got your health yourself, it’s really nice to be able to give something back. I love spending one-on-one time with residents, it’s lovely to be able to sit down with them and just talk. I know they appreciate me being there, and I find it very rewarding.”
