Respite services

We know that many older people are able to stay living in their own homes because their family and friends help support them. We also know that helping these unpaid carers to remain happy and healthy is critical to ensure they can continue to support their loved one. That’s why respite services are so important. We provide carers with a break and the older people they care for with the chance to socialise with others their own age.

Day programs

Benetas has a range of centres, which are set up to be as home-like as possible, operating from Monday to Friday. These programs are held during the day and run under the direction of a qualified coordinator. Clients have the chance to socialise with others, enjoy games, meals together and outings to museums, parks and other local attractions.

Overnight/extended respite

Many of the centres also have bedrooms which allow for our clients to spend extended periods of time with us. This can be very helpful when a carer needs to travel for work or go away on holiday. Staff are on site 24 hours a day and all meals are provided. Every effort is made to meet our clients’ regular home routines. Many clients regularly enjoy overnight, weekend and short stays with us and have established strong relationships with the staff who assist them during these periods.

Respite at residential facilities

Many of our residential aged care facilities have dedicated rooms for respite clients. These can be utilised by older people who are unwell or need extra care when recuperating after time in hospital and their regular carer is unable to provide the support they need. Residential respite is subject to availability. Please call the Benetas Customer Centre on 1300 23 63 82 for more information. View residential facility locations.

Respite in your own home

If you’d like respite support in your own home, our Benetas Home Care service can assist. A qualified Benetas Home Care Personal Care Worker will visit you at home and you pay an hourly fee. There is no waiting list for this service and support is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Learn more about Benetas Home Care.

Costs and process

If you are eligible to receive government-funded assistance, most of your respite costs will be taken care of. You may be asked to make a small co-contribution (or fee) which is calculated based on your income and assets. Benetas clients will not be asked to make a contribution should this cause undue hardship.
