About government Home Care Packages

Four Commonwealth government-funded Home Care Packages are available depending on your needs:

  • Level 1 – Basic care and support needs
  • Level 2 – Low level care and support needs
  • Level 3 – Intermediate care and support needs
  • Level 4 – High level care and support needs

In addition to receiving a Home Care Package across any of these four levels, your loved one may also be eligible for a Dementia or Veteran Supplement.

The government Home Care Package assessment process

  1. Your loved one will be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) Assessor using the National Screening and Assessment Form (NSAF).
  2. Your assessment will be entered into the My Aged Care system so that a level of service can be determined. You will then be placed in a queue until a suitable package becomes available.
  3. Once your assigned package becomes available, you nominate your chosen service provider (Benetas) and enter into a service agreement.

Private funded home care services

Because the government assessment process can take time, you may want to consider private home care as an interim measure. Private home care can also very useful for short-term needs such as post-hospital care.

With private home care, you could start receiving services in as little as 1-4 days. No waiting lists or extra paperwork to hold you up. So although no rebates apply, you do receive a much faster service. Further to this, in cases of emergency, we can provide same day services!

As a private client, you will also have access to all the same services available with a government-funded package – including personal care, housework, nursing care, food services, social support and more.

Home care costs

Government funded package: Although most costs are covered, some costs may apply. These are calculated based on the income of the person receiving the services. But rest assured that you can’t be refused a government home care package if you’re unable to pay.

If you'd like to calculate your government funded home care package, download the Benetas Home Care calculator. Calculate your government fees and subsidairy, and then see how you can alllocate this towards home care services that help you or your loved one stay at home longer.

Privately funded service: You determine the types of services and begin receiving our services almost immediately on an hourly rate arrangement (no formal assessment required).
