How to volunteer?

Linking individuals with the community

Last year more than 600 Benetas volunteers were involved in a range of activities with older Victorians. Be a part of the Benetas volunteer program so you too can help others.

Volunteering opportunities

There are a variety of different volunteering opportunities available including:

  • Community Care volunteer program – support older people living in their own homes by:
    • Regularly visiting them and providing companionship
    • Walking and monitoring their pets
  • Benetas Residential Care (nursing homes) – support older people in one or more of our 12 residential sites with a variety of activities from reading the paper to conducting sing-a-longs.
  • Opportunities in Research, People Development, Marketing, Fundraising and Administration.

Applying to become a volunteer

There are four steps to becoming a Benetas Volunteer:

1.      Contact the Volunteer Coordinator
2.      Attend an information session to learn about Benetas, how you can help and the variety of volunteer roles available
3.      Complete the registration process (including a police check)
4.      Have an orientation with Benetas, get to know the local site  where you will volunteer and the role you will be performing.

A rewarding experience

Kathleen Jackson has been volunteering for Benetas for over six years and visits two clients. “I go to clients’ homes and provide companionship for someone who might not ordinarily have social contact every day,” she explains.“I love to see their smiling faces when I come to their door, and before I know it one hour has turned into two!”

“Volunteering is part of my life and I would say to anyone thinking of volunteering, go for it, it’s rewarding!”
