Living with dementia
Living positively with dementia
Dementia affects a person’s cognitive ability. There are different types of dementia that can affect an individual in different ways. A person may start getting lost, have trouble remembering things, and have problems calculating things.
Caring for someone living with dementia
People with dementia often feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance as their mental abilities decline. It’s important to provide a safe and supportive environment for them, and give them opportunities to be stimulated.
How we can help
Day program & residential care services
Many older people with dementia wish to continue living in their own home. Often the people closest to them such as loved ones end up caring for them. This can be challenging and sometimes the carer themselves is in need of a break and support.
The Aged Care Day program operates Monday-Friday under the direction of a qualified coordinator and supports those with dementia with a variety of programs. The residential care unit provides 24-hour care for people suffering from dementia.
Dementia program services help to:
- Reduce social isolation
- Provide a supportive, caring, safe environment
- Support carers and families through respite, support networks, advice and education
- Assist with daily living tasks
- Provide a stimulating lifestyle and leisure program including music therapy, reflexology and massage.
Facility services:
Eligibility to enter Dementia residential care
