Leisure, lifestyle and community
Broughton Hall’s dining and living spaces facilitate a range of community activities, while the home's Chapel is adorned with stained glass antique windows from earlier times and is the venue for regular services and special non-denominational events. The heritage lounge and dining rooms are perfect for private celebrations and small family gatherings.
There is a wide choice of leisure and lifestyle activities and pastoral care support to help clients meet their diverse religious, spiritual and pastoral needs.
The Dementia-specific unit
The dementia-specific residential unit provides a secure and supportive environment for clients with specific dementia care needs. A consistent team of trained staff provide a familiar face and enable therapeutic relationships to be built. Tailored programs and activities are available each day that take into account people’s cognitive abilities and provide opportunities for activity and stimulation.
Skilled, experienced staff
Highly skilled and experienced staff understand the nature of dementia and focus on achieving the best possible lifestyle and health outcomes for clients, where individualised care is provided with respect and dignity.
Best practice dementia care
The unit is recognised by the Victorian Department of Human Services as the benchmark for their best practice in dementia care guidelines. A review by independent clinical psychologist, Bernie McCarthy, has stated that the unit "offers a radically new culture in dementia care…it is a sign of what is possible in aged care today and elements should be incorporated into future models of dementia care environments."
Aged Care Day Program/Respite service
Broughton Hall also operates an Aged Care Day Program/Respite Service. This community care service is designed to assist older people with dementia who wish to continue living in their own homes and to give their families or carers an essential carer’s break and support. It provides care for six clients each day from Monday to Friday.
