Celebrating 60 years of caring
Latest news
Benetas marked its 60th anniversary of caring for the state’s elderly with a formal celebration at St Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday 13 April 2008.
Our history
The original organisation was established in 1948 by a small group of volunteers within the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, who saw a real an urgent need within the community to provide care and support to vulnerable elderly people. The basis upon which Benetas operated then under the name of Anglican Aged Care Services Group and upon which it operates today is the need to provide care and services in accordance with Christian values for the relief of need, suffering, sickness, helplessness, poverty, misfortune or destitution, of people in the community, particularly older people. We do this through managing residential and community care services for the elderly where it is needed in an efficient and effective manner, ensuring we serve disadvantaged and marginalised elderly people and participate at all levels on issues of social justice associated with the provision of aged care services.

How we have grown and changed
We have grown from small humble beginnings to now being a leading provider of aged care services in Victoria with residential and community programs, 12 residential aged care facilities including two dementia-specific units, 820 community care packages, including three dedicated respite centres, supported by 1,200 staff and 620 volunteers. What has stayed with our organisation throughout is a commitment to providing quality aged care services for all Victorians irrespective of their background founded by a set of Christian values.
What do we hope for the future
That quality and innovative aged care is accessible by all elderly regardless of race, religion, financial circumstances or any other background. That Benetas provides the vehicle for the elderly to be able to continue their journey through life and to live the best life possible with all challenges and joys.
